JPC
JPC is a PC emulator x86 programmed in Java by the department of Particle Physics of the university of Oxford. The emulator is multiplatform, for PC, Mac, Linux or a Nokia 9500, since java without changes in the code works on the virtual machine. The program is totally safe, since java is executed in a sand table (” sandbox”), reason why we can modify the emulated operating system without influencing in the machine where this executing itself. JPC emulates peripheral like the keyboard, mouse, hard disk, graphical card VGA and an Ethernet port.
The application has been proven in a Nokia 9500, that includes a 150 chip OMAP to Mhz, and according to words of Rhys Newman, one of its developers, “needs enough processor and as much memory as it is possible”, reason why it is possible to compile it for other models of Symbian moving bodies like, for example, the N95.
Recently the JPC source code has been published under license open source, reason why if somebody is animated to compile it for its use on Symbian telephones
Updated: then already it has been compiled and published for movable telephones MIDP 2,0 and that have enough memory (but enough). The version for moving bodies is not as complete as for the rest of platforms and works quite slow, but it is pleasant to see start it…
